We get wages only on the day we go to work, we have to compulsorily pluck 20 kgs of tea leaves for 1000 rupees per day. If we take less than 20kg then we are given a wage of only 500 rupees. On a monthly basis if we work for 22 days we get only Rs 14,000. If we pluck more than 20kg, for each extra kilo we are given 40 rupees. If there are no tea leaves in a particular season then we have to compulsorily pluck 18kg. The wages we get in the estate are not enough since we have to educate 3 children. Before, if we worked for 22 days a month we were given a salary. But now it has been changed. We get paid on a daily basis according to the kilo of the tea leaves plucked. We have been demanding our own house for the past 10 years. Currently we are living in a rented house. If someone dies here the money for the coffin is given to us from the money which had been reduced from our monthly salary.
